A sourdough starter story

The Alpha Starters club was founded in July of 2020 by two Generation Alpha kids, Vincent, born 2010, and Amélie, born 2013. The journey started when they joined the “Sourdough for Science” project to pass the time during their locked down holiday.

After two weeks of careful measuring, mixing, smelling, recording and watching their starters grow wildly, the two had not only contributed to science but had created two very different sourdough starters and were keen to start baking.

They soon realised however that two well-fed starters either require a lot of baking, or a lot of discarding. And Vincent and Amélie didn’t want to keep discarding so much starter. Instead they decided to share their starters with the world. And so, the Alpha Starters Club was founded.
